WEDC, previously known as California AWED, began with SBA funding in 1989 to assist the growing number of women business owners in Los Angeles. Their core programs consist of two long-term training modules: Starting your own business for beginning businesses and Managing your own business for women who have been in business at least one year with gross receipts over $50,000. Women in New Development (WIND) is a division of Bi-County Community Action Programs, Inc. It began as a Demonstration site in 1989 in Beltrami and Cass Counties. SOWAC was first organized in 1989 and used volunteer staff for a number of years. The volunteers were able to raise a loan fund of over $10,000 from small donations from the community. The project will serve Jackson County, including the cities of Medford and Ashland and Josephine County (includes the Grants Pass).
